The Australian government has announced that it has imposed antidumping (AD) duty on hot rolled steel plate imports from Japan, China, Indonesia and South Korea and countervailing duty (CVD) on the same imports from China. The antidumping duty rates for the hot rolled steel plate imports from the abovementioned countries range between zero and 54.9 percent.

The products subject to antidumping duty currently fall under tariff codes 7208.40.00, 7208.51.00, 7208.52.00 and 7225.40.00.

Meanwhile, the Japan Iron and Steel Federation has expressed its disappointment regarding Australia's antidumping measure decision, recalling that during the investigation the Japanese steel industry repeatedly stated that exports of hot rolled plate steel from Japan have caused no injury to the domestic industry in Australia. The JISF said that the Japanese steel industry will carefully study this decision and, after holding discussions with the Japanese government, will determine a proper course of action.
